What is TPI?

TPI is the Titleist Performance Institute, an extension of the Titleist brand into the world of player performance. Founded in 2003 by Dr. Greg Rose and Dave Phillips, TPI has worked with the world’s best golfers to understand how they move, why they move the way they do, and what they can do to become even better at the game. TPI Headquarters serves as the headquarters for player assessment and advanced education for professionals in the medical, fitness, and instructional fields.

Is TPI training only for the pros?

TPI training benefits golfers of all ability levels. Regardless of skill level, how the body moves affects the ability to execute a consistent and powerful golf swing. Due to the sheer number of avid and recreational golfers and the popularity of the sport, more avid and recreational golfers benefit from TPI training than professionals.

What makes TPI special?

TPI is one of the few places where you can implement the same principles being used at the highest level of professional sport. Everything TPI uses is backed by science and proven through data. The TPI approach to golf fitness doesn’t look like other forms of fitness. You won’t see a lot of the conventional approaches to lifting weight and cardiovascular fitness. Everything is tailored to keep the player’s priorities in mind. This is not a program that exists just for the sake of doing exercise or losing weight. It exists to make players better at the game they love, keep them healthy, and minimize the amount of time they need to spend in the gym so they can spend their time sharpening their skills and enjoying time with their families.

Do players only work on their fitness in the offseason?

Professional golf doesn’t have much of an offseason, which means that players need to find a way to improve year-round while balancing the demands of their sport and traveling to a different city every week. While the offseason affords more time to work on fitness, players who want to be competitive prioritize their strength and power training throughout the year so they can maintain elite levels of power while staying resilient to the amount of practice that is necessary to compete at the highest level.

How do I get started?

The first step in the TPI process is always a Level 1 TPI screen. This screen is a golf-specific movement analysis that assesses how you move while screening for injuries and pain. By understanding the connection between your body and your swing, we can gain a clearer picture of whether or not you’re capable of achieving the necessary positions in the golf swing and whether you have a swing problem or a fitness problem. It is a critical step before progressing to the more demanding Level 2 screen.

The Level 2 TPI Screen evaluates your strength and power production, separating it into upper body, lower body, and core while examining the left versus right sides. This assessment allows us to understand which source of power is holding you back and what exercises we need to do to optimize your distance off the tee.

If you’re interested in improving your golf game along with your strength and power, get started by filling out the form below. Life’s too short to play anything but your best golf.
