Whether you’re a busy parent just trying to keep your head above water, a student balancing academics and fitness, an athlete  seeking that competitive edge, or close to retirement and want to make the most of your golden years— your goals are unique, and your training should be too.

That’s why we’ve designed a smarter, more personalized way to train at Gym 1801. Our Fitness Concierge Session is your roadmap to faster results, better recovery, and long-term success.

Functional Movement Screen (FMS): Move Better, Train Smarter

Developed by movement expert Gray Cook, the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is your body’s blueprint. Think of it as your fitness “check engine light” — revealing the areas that need attention to keep you moving well and performing your best.

The FMS includes seven key movement patterns that help our team design a program that meets you where you are and takes you where you want to go. Here’s what we assess — and why it matters:

  1. Deep Squat – Tests hip, knee, and ankle mobility along with core stability.
Why it matters: If you’re a mom chasing kids, an athlete working on strength, or just someone who wants to move better — addressing mobility gaps here unlocks better movement in everything you do.
  2. Hurdle Step – Evaluates balance, stability, and hip control.
Why it matters: Perfect for runners, athletes, or anyone working on single-leg strength and balance.
  3. Inline Lunge – Assesses hip mobility, core control, and overall stability.
Why it matters: If lunges feel unstable, we’ll develop drills to strengthen your core and improve joint control.
  4. Shoulder Mobility – Reveals upper-body flexibility and shoulder health.
Why it matters: If tight shoulders are limiting your boxing class or making lifting feel stiff, we’ll give you the tools to fix it.
  5. Active Straight-Leg Raise – Tests hamstring flexibility and hip mobility.
Why it matters: Whether you’re working on your deadlift, yoga practice, or golf swing — improved flexibility here means better movement overall.
  6. Trunk Stability Push-Up – A true test of core strength and total-body control.
Why it matters: Whether you’re trying to improve your Jiu-Jitsu guard game or build a stronger core, this test shows us what needs to be strengthened.
  7. Rotary Stability – Evaluates core coordination and movement control.
Why it matters: Athletes, parents lifting kids, or anyone looking to move better will benefit from improved core control.

With your FMS results in hand, we’ll create a program that targets exactly what your body needs to move stronger, feel better, and perform at your best.

InBody 770 Analysis: Real Data for Real Results

The InBody 770 goes far beyond a standard scale — it’s a powerful tool that reveals what’s happening inside your body so we can tailor your training with precision.

Here’s what we measure — and how it fuels your results:

  • Skeletal Muscle Mass – Identifies how much muscle you have and where you carry it.
Why it matters: Knowing this helps us design a strength plan that’s targeted and effective.
  • Body Fat Percentage – Reveals the balance of muscle and fat in your body.
Why it matters: This metric helps us shape your program to focus on fat loss, muscle gain, or improved body composition.
  • Visceral Fat Area – Measures fat around vital organs.
Why it matters: High visceral fat is linked to long-term health risks, so this data informs lifestyle changes and cardio programming.
  • Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) – Shows how many calories you burn at rest.
Why it matters: With this number, we can guide your nutrition and recovery strategies for optimal results.
  • Segmental Lean Analysis – Breaks down muscle balance across your body.
Why it matters: Balanced strength is key for injury prevention and peak performance — whether you’re in the gym, on the field, or chasing your kids.

Why This Matters: Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes…

What Happens Next:

  • Our training team will review your results with you, highlighting key insights to help you understand where you stand and where you’re headed.

Embracing the Cold: My Journey with Cryotherapy and Its Benefits

When the wind in the cryotherapy chamber reaches a violent crescendo, you’ll have spent—if you can stay in there—anywhere from two to three and a half minutes at temperatures ranging from -40°F to -175°F. I’m not entirely sure how they create that atmosphere—or even if it’s intentional—but if you keep your eyes open at the […]

Therapy at the Frontier: The Benefits of a Wellness Plan

I only met Padraig twice, but I remember him well. A storyteller through and through, every ailment he had was one that “could kill a rhinoceros.” The first time I met him was at a wedding, where he described his hangover in those exact terms. Which is how I can say, with absolute certainty, that […]
